ATI Tray Tools 1.0.1.358
ATI Tray Tools is a new Radeon cards tweaker for Windows 2000, XP and 2003.
Changes:
Added "Artifact Tester" with ability to find maximum values for GPU and MEM. Including an option to heat up main CPU, to simulate game environment.
Be notified, that procedure to find real maximum clocks is not as simple as you can think. It is a very huge job and I never will create such options in ATI Tray Tools. The given procedure is intended to find clock, when no artifact detected during given time, while rendering a simple scene. (The space ship have about 26 000 triangles.). So it is up to you, how to use this Tester. 8-)
Added new Hardware Window. Now you can control PCI Lantency timer for your video card. Automaticaly apply value on start up and restore it after suspend/hibernate modes.
Added context sensitive help file (English version).
Improved installation. Now you can select Program Menu folder to shortcuts. When installing new version over previous one, new installation will automatically take path for Program Menu from old installation, and use it.

Chris Vrenna Talks Doom 3
Noted composer/musician discusses creating the theme song and ambient texturing in the game.
Within the realms of video game music the name Chris Vrenna is spoken with a certain amount of reverence. But then that's to be expected considering his pedigree.
Vrenna rose to fame (and to a certain extent infamy) as one of the founding members of Nine Inch Nails. Since his departure from NIN, he's carved out a well-respected niche as a producer and remixer, working with a wide variety of top name talent ranging from U2 to P.O.D. and Xzibit. The man has also released two solo/group albums under the moniker Tweaker, the project drawing all manner of interesting collaborations from the likes of Will Oldham, David Slyvian, Robert Smith, and Johnny Marr.

FarCry 1.2 Patch Recalled
Ubisoft has taken the decision to withdraw this patch due to issues experienced by a number of users. An official statement follows:
"Far Cry patch 1.2 has shown unexpected behaviour on specific hardware configurations. These matters are mainly due to incompatibilities with several optimisations brought lately to the code, with the intent to please a large number of users. We're currently asking CRYTEK to work on delivering a new patch as soon as possible. Until then we have decided to remove the patch 1.2 from the official UbiSoft websites."

Tomb Raider 7 In Summer 2005
Top Cow Production, makers of the Tomb Raider comic revealed today in a company press release that Tomb Raider 7 will be out in Summer 2005. The company mentioned that they are going to wind down Volume 1 of its comic in January 2005 and relaunch with Volume 2 simultaneously with the videogame release.
?Once we spoke with Eidos and realized they were changing Lara Croft up quite a bit it seemed a prudent course to wrap up what we?re doing now and prepare for the newer version sometime late next year,? says Top Cow President Matt Hawkins.
Top Cow still plans to release Tomb Raider specials and one-shots throughout the down time between Volume 1 and 2. We contacted Eidos Interactive to get an official wording on the release date, but all we received was a ?No Comment?.

More Half-Life 2 theft details emerge
British newspaper article sheds new light on gaming's most notorious code heist.
When Valve announced last month that a wave of international arrests had been made in the Half-Life 2 code theft, they directed questions to the FBI's Cybercrime Task Force. Task Force officers would only confirm arrests had been made but would not comment beyond that.
Luckily, the FBI's European counterparts are apparently more forthcoming. An article in yesterday's London Guardian outlined the Half-Life 2 code-theft arrests in the most detail to date. Besides talking about how the gaming community helped track down the perpetrators via online group-sleuthing, the article revealed several new details, including:
How the theft was perpetrated: According to the Guardian, "Having accessed Valve's server through a security-bypassing loophole in Windows, the hackers were able to download an early and hugely incomplete version of Half-Life 2 and posted it on the Internet for downloading via Usenet. A boxed version of the code was even on sale on the Ukrainian and Russian black markets."

Catalyst Driver Comparison
verheaven staff member Steve "Chaos" Ruxton has taken Omegas and Unian's drivers for a test drive along with ATIs 4.7 drivers. Steve has done a very thorough job and it makes for informative reading indeed.
Ok we have all heard the "hype" now for quite some time regarding the tweaking and/or modifying of the official Catalyst Display Drivers. I am going to spend some time testing some of these drivers and compare them against their official counterparts. I will be running a series of benchmarks using a few of the more popular titles today. I am going to look at how different AA/AF settings affect speed, as well as what that performance loss does to enhance your overall image quality.
