Medal of Honor 4 named, detailed
Quoting Shakespeare, no less, Electronic Arts has officially unveiled its next World War II-based Medal of Honor console title, having mentioned one was in development earlier this week during an investor conference call. Medal of Honor: Dogs of War will be crying 'Havok!' on PS2, Xbox and Cube in spring 2005 as previously announced, and according to EA's missive "advances on the series by introducing players to a new way of playing, while still delivering a unflinching picture of warfare and its gut-wrenching brutality."
Unfortunately the publisher neglected to elaborate on what it means by "a new way of playing," but it did cough up the following bit of background on the title, which is being developed by Medal of Honor veterans EA Los Angeles: "Europe 1942. These are desperate hours for the Allied forces as the Nazi war machine rages across a devastated European landscape. With the British on the brink, Lt. William Holt of the OSS is sent on a secret mission by order of the President of the United States. On his own, or with his squad, Holt is pivotal in helping to turn the tide in four of the most crucial battles leading to victory in Europe."

Half-Life 2 Optimization Guide
N Gear have thrown up their Half-Life 2 Optimization Guide! Here's a snip.
Half-Life 2 finally looks like it's just around the corner. In anticipation of its release, gamers everywhere are pre-loading the game via Steam and clearing off hard drive space. But is the rest of your PC ready for Valve's next masterpiece?
That's where we come in. If you've got a few hundred bucks and are planning on upgrading your system, good for you. But what we're going to focus on here is getting the most out of the system you already have. The same tips will apply of course to brand-new systems as well, of course, so even if you plunk down $4 grand on a new gaming rig the day the game is released, you'll want to check this out.
Now, we're not going to cover overclocking per-se, but some of the settings you tweak will qualify as that; for example, your memory timings if you get overly aggressive. We're going to try and avoid talking about anything that would fry your system, but some of these adjustments may make it unstable. In such cases, we'll make definite note of it. Of course, changing anything to some setting way out of whack will do that, so be careful.
And while we're on the subject, we take no responsibility for any problems or system failures as a result of changing anything in this guide. Again, you should be perfectly fine; we're just covering our collective asses here.
And as always, before you make a ton of changes to your system, back up important files.

Half-Life 2 pre-load moves onto fifth phase
The ongoing Half-Life 2 pre-load saga hit its fifth phase last night, with Steam account holders able to continue downloading the Counter-Strike: Source maps in encrypted form. With the ongoing legal saga between Valve and its publisher Vivendi-Universal, it seems possible that the game may end up suffering further delays, but as it stands, neither Valve nor Vivendi have given the slightest public indication when the game will ship. UK retailers have been insisting, off the record, for some time that the game will not be shipping this year. When posed the question recently, Valve declined to comment.

Half-Life 2's Multiplayer Mode Is...
Apart from just when the game will be in our eager hands (or live on our systems), whether or not multiplayer will be included in Half-Life 2 has been one of the biggest questions about the game. While Valve has so far implied that Half-Life 2's multiplayer mode is simply Counter-Strike: Source, nothing specific or official had been announced.
However, Halflife2.net today posted an interview with PC Gamer's Chuck Osborn, who happens to be among the first to review the final game. And there, in the interview, Osborn gives us an answer: "Counter-Strike Source is the multiplayer." No separate deathmatch. Just CS: Source.
