AOL Most Infected Web Network, company states
Prolexic, a provider of security consulting products, has claimed that Deutsche Telecom, Wanadoo and AOL are Europe's top three internet providers for harboring infected PCs
The primary attack of choice in the beginning of 2005 was an advanced full connection based flood. This attack exposes the real IP address of the attacking zombie, however, due to the sheer number of IP addresses that must be blacklisted to successfully defend against the attack places an overwhelming load on protection hardware.
The findings were based on statistics taken from real DDoS attacks over the last six months. Globally, AOL was found to be the most infected service provider on the Internet.

20 Launch Titles for Xbox 360
Munetatsu Matsui - editor-in-chief of Famitsu Xbox, well known for its close connections to Microsoft's Japanese operation - has stated that a grand total of 20 launch titles are lined up for the Xbox 360's November debut.
That's rather more than we've been expecting, frankly, and rather a lot for a publisher planning to launch a new console in three different territories on the same day, you might think... We contacted Microsoft to ask if Munetatsu's estimate was correct, and a representative told us: "We're not discussing day one titles at this time." However, the representative did confirm that, "Between 25 and 40 titles will be available for Xbox 360 during launch period."

EA takes action against Battlefield 2 demo hackers
In a move that many will not like, EA Games has banned or delisted over 1,000 servers running their recently released Battlefield 2 demo. In a community update issued earlier today, EA Games had this to say about the situation:
EA and DICE both fully support server-side modding in the sense that we have intentionally exposed a good deal of Python functionality to the end-user, primarily to encourage modders to tweak game types and scoring (on UNRANKED servers) once the full game is available. That said, we have come to discover that two items that were not a part of the demo feature-set were hacked in the Battlefield 2 demo. We consider both of these changes in violation of the Tools EULA that each server operator accepted in installing the server software.
The demo's feature set included a 12-minute time limit on rounds and excluded access to the weapon unlocks. Because some server operators have hacked the time limit out of their servers or hacked access to the unlocks, we have been forced to reinforce our intended feature set by delisting the offending servers. All violations of the EULA as described above will result in a 1-week ban/delisting.
The activities of the obviously active hacking community reinforce our decision to not release the Ranked server publicly with the final product. Our desire is to be able to offer an exploit-free place to play where players can legitimately gain ranks, and collect awards and unlocks. The only way we can offer such a service and protect the Ranked server content is by hosting the ranked servers directly and through trusted partners. The Unranked server tools will be released to the community so that they may host their own BF2 servers, mods, etc.

Battlefield 2 Multiplayer Map Preview
Gamespy is in the process of posting a preview of all 12 multiplayer maps included in EA Games and Digital Illusions CE's upcoming online shooter, Battlefield 2. The first part of the article focuses on the maps Strike at Karkand, The Zatar Wetlands, and The Songhua Stalemate. More maps will be revealed each day this week.
Each of the game's 12 maps will come in 16, 32, and 64 player flavors, with strategies varying greatly depending on the number of players in each game. This allows for players with slower connections to be able to enjoy the game even with only 15 other players.
One of the more interesting maps should prove to be Strike at Karkand, a map in an urban setting that is clouded by dust and soot, making air units unusable. The streets are littered with burning cars and other tank obstacles, making armor movement a difficult practice to perfect. Attacks can come from almost any window lining the street, and small arms could prove to be the weapon of choice.
Have a read through the article. If you're still contemplating a purchase even after trying the demo, more information about the other maps might be just what you need to make that decision.
Battlefield 2 is due out on the 21st of June on PC.

San Andreas rumbles onto PC, Xbox
Rockstar Games confirms that two more versions of its previously PlayStation 2-exclusive crime epic are now on the market.
After months of PlayStation 2 exclusivity, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is now available on alternate platforms. Rockstar Games confirmed that the Xbox and PC versions of the game have shipped and will be in stores shortly. Both versions of the game cost $49.99 and are rated M for Mature.
San Andreas is full of violent crime and adult humor, and its M rating is well deserved. It follows the exploits of Carl "CJ" Johnson--voiced by rapper Chris Bellard--a onetime street hood who has cleaned up his act. However, CJ strays from the straight and narrow shortly after returning to Los Santos, his Los Angeles-like hometown, for his mother's funeral. Soon, he rejoins his former gang and begins an unlawful adventure that will take him to the San Francisco clone of San Fierro and the Las Vegas-esque desert gambling mecca of Las Venturas.

ATI R520 has 32 pipelines, 24 working
IT MIGHT be the only chip capable of doing H.264 video in hardware for a while, as we believe that not even Nvidia G70 will be able to do this. H.264 is next generation codec used for HD-DVD content. Despite that we heard more than once that R520 aka Fudo is the biggest chip ever built.
R520 was showed in Taiwan and it's up and running, showcasing two games, PREY and Alan Wake at ATI booth and doing some H.264 video decoding at a different corner.
We learned that R520 might be quite hot as it is the biggest chip ever with its 300+ millions transistors. Since its 90 nanometre its kind of logical that you can place quite a lot of pipelines under its hood and it turns out that ATI has managed to pack in 32 pipes. Having 32 happy Scottish chaps in kilts playing the pipes at the same time is perhaps the best metaphor.

AMD FX-57 likely to arrive in two weeks
When the Green Goblin from Santa Clara launched its succesfull nForce4 chipset, it had an ultimate companion: Green Arrow from Sunnyvale launched Athlon 64 4000+ on the very same day. During Computex in Taiwan, one nice country which does not like nice Bosnians, we learned that the Green Goblin will get another boost from Green Arrow: highly-expected FX-57 CPU is supposed to make an appearance in third week of June, at the same time with unveiling of upcoming nV's latest baby, G70 - its rumoured, but as yet unconfirmed name is the GeForce 7800.
What we expect is that the CPU won't boost the score too much in 3DMark05, which is a pretty GPU-bound benchmark, but a plethora of other games with more CPU intensive code will certanly add to the results of G70 reference boards compared to the competition.

Firefox reintroduces 7-year-old security flaw
New versions of the Mozilla Foundation's browsers have reintroduced a seven-year-old flaw that makes them vulnerable to spoofing attacks, security advisory company Secunia said Monday.
Secunia first publicized the flaw last summer, warning that a feature that had been built into most browsers for years was in fact a security liability. The firm argued that a feature allowing one Web page to load arbitrary content into a frame of another page could allow an attacker to, for example, substitute his own log-in window on a bank's Web site. The feature was found in IE, Mozilla, Opera, Safari, and Mozilla derivatives such as Konqueror.
Most browser vendors, including Mozilla, agreed and updated their products to remove the feature. But it has been re-introduced in Firefox 1.0.4, Mozilla 1.7.8, and Camino 0.x, according to the firm.
The new vulnerability is a slight variation of the flaw fixed last year, Secunia said.
The Mozilla Project said it is investigating the report, and a moderator of the organisation's online support site said the flaw had not been exploited.

MSN flaw put Hotmail accounts at risk
Microsoft took part of its MSN Web site offline over the weekend, after it learned of a flaw that could let an attacker gain access to Hotmail accounts, the company said.
The MSN Web site, http://ilovemessenger.msn.com/, contained a so-called cross-site scripting flaw, a Microsoft representative said on Monday. In its initial review of the issue, the company found that an attacker could use the vulnerability to obtain "cookies" from Hotmail users by getting them to click on a malicious URL. That could then grant access to those e-mail accounts, the representative said.

ATI "Fudo" 520 Faster than 2 SLI'd 6800's
DESPITE WHAT people were claiming, the G70 will score better than the 7800. The card never got the 7800 suffix based on its 3Dmark05 score and if it was number would end up significantly bigger. It's actually going to be quite better but still not as good as the "Fudo" R520.
We got some numbers from this card and it turns out that R520 scores more than 10000 in 3Dmark05. We still don't know its clock speeds but we know the score. For what we know Nvidia can not mach this with G70.

Netscape 8 'breaks' IE
Following a problem in IE with XML rendering after Netscape 8 has been installed, Microsoft is advising users to uninstall Netscape.
Microsoft has alerted users that Netscape's latest browser appears to break the XML rendering capabilities in Microsoft Internet Explorer. Dave Massy, a senior programme manager for IE, warned users in a blog posting that after installing Netscape 8, IE will render XML files as a blank page, including XML files that have an XSLT transformation.
Microsoft did not make clear what versions of IE were affected, but a user of the DeveloperDex forum said he experienced the problem on version 6 of IE, which had been patched with Windows Service Pack 2. The forum user, known as cybarber, said this issue has put him off using Netscape. "This is really really bad," said cybarber in the posting. "Netscape was dead and now I will bury it so deep it will never surface. Internet Explorer (7?) is all I need."
